Le Fonds BOISSY - The BOISSY ARCHIVE

The Boissy Project aims to create a critical digital edition of the theatrical production of Louis de Boissy (1694-1758) in conformity with the guidelines of the Text Encoding Initiative. The project has achieved recognition by the French national consortium for humanities digital productions (Consortium CAHIER) which is part of TGIR Huma-Num.

Using methodologies from lexicography and corpus linguistics, as well as using the possibilities offered by the Text Encoding Initiative, the Boissy Project seeks to develop new ways to look at French eighteenth century theatre by using digital humanities techniques in different ways so as to create critical editions that allow thematic markup of plays and to test new tools from the linking and extraction of information.

The objectives of the project are to :
  1. Provide a digital edition of the works of the French playwright Louis de Boissy (1694-1758), ideally of the entirety of his production (including translations into other languages, writings for the Mercure de France, speeches, songs and poems).
  2. Experiment with new tools and exploratory methods for theatrical productions, tools designed specifically with the literary community in mind. Existing resources and methods, textometry and search engines are often too limited and do not really allow researchers to ask their own questions. The aim is this to provide a fully open access version whilst developing and adapting new tools for their interrogation..
Texts are being marked up following the TEI P5 Guidelines by students of the masters course  in Publishing and Digital Humanities in Lorient, France under the direction of Dr. Ioana Galleron and Professor Geoffrey Williams

This is ongoing work, the following are texts completed to date in the first stage of markup.
